Weatherization
The Economic Stimulus Plan Impacts the Virginia
Department of Housing and Community Development
Weatherization Program
The Economic Stimulus Plan has made revisions to the The
Weatherization Assistance program so that more individuals
and families can qualify for this program.
Weatherization assistance includes:
- window replacement,
- heat system upgrades,
- repair leaky duct systems
- installation of efficient lighting,
- installation of ventilation fans,
- sealing air leaks with insulation, caulking,
and weather-stripping
This in an income based program. Services are available
for lower-income households, particularly for the elderly,
individuals with disabilities, and families with children.
The counties of Dinwiddie, Surry, Sussex and Prince George
and cities of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and Hopewell
and Emporia are served by the
Crater District Area Agency on Aging located in
Petersburg. The first step is to contact the agency and
let them know that you are interested in applying for
assistance under the weatherization program.
A meeting will be scheduled to meet at your home to
perform an energy audit and determine the best energy-saving
measures that are cost effective, healthy, and safe.
The work is provided at no cost to you. Homeowners and
renters may apply.
