Hurricane Sandy

Members should be making preparations for the impact of Hurricane Sandy. Though we do not know what the impact will be, the number of outages or duration of outages we urge you to make some plans now. Secure outdoor furniture, fuel your vehicles, stock up on canned food such as tuna, chicken, soup, peanut butter and jelly. Check that you have prescription medicine to last several days. Purchase bottled bottle and flashlight batteries.

Sales Tax Holiday

Between October 5 through October 8th, purchases of certain Energy Star and WaterSense qualified products purchased for non-commercial use and costing $2,500 or less will be exempt from sales tax. The exempt Energy Star items include dishwashers, clothes washers, refrigerators, air conditioners, ceiling fans, compact fluorescent light bulbs, and programmable thermostats that carry the Energy Star designation. The exempt WaterSense items include bathroom sink faucets, faucet accessories, and toilets.

Phone Scam

BEWARE OF PHONE SCAM! As electric bills rise because of summer temperatures, a handful of consumer-members at electric cooperatives have fallen prey to a coast-to-coast telemarketing scam offering bogus help with energy bills. Bogus telemarketers are telling consumers that President Obama will pay their electric bills through a special federal program if they provide personal information. There is no such program. Do not give out your banking or social security information to anyone who claims to represent such a program.
