Gas Plant to Serve Mid-Atlantic Co-ops

More than 1 million Mid-Atlantic cooperative members will have a new source of lower-emission electricity come 2017, when a 1,000-megawatt, state-of-the-art natural gas power plant is completed.

Construction of the $675 million Wildcat Point Power Plant got underway in Cecil County, Md., following a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 14 at the site near the Delaware state line.

October is National Cooperative Month

Prince George Electric Cooperative (PGEC) is inviting everyone to celebrate cooperatives in Virginia– and across America – during National Cooperative Month.

Every October, cooperatives are recognized for the qualities that make the business model unique. Seven cooperative principles set us apart from other businesses: voluntary and open membership; democratic member control; member’s economic participation; autonomy and independence; education, training and information; cooperation among cooperatives; and concern for community.

PRINCE GEORGE ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE RECEIVES SILVER SPONSOR AWARD

In May 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, ultimately raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight the nation’s biggest health concern – cancer. A year later, 340 supporters joined the overnight event. Since those first steps, the Relay For Life movement has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, raising nearly $5 billion to fight cancer.

The 2015 Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives Educational Scholarship Application Guidelines are now available.  Details on eligibility requirements and the application steps can be found here.

The form may be completed and submitted electronically.

Application deadline is February 11, 2015.

October Tax Free Holiday

Thinking about buying a new appliance? On Oct. 10-13, you can shop for energy-efficient products - tax free!

During this four-day holiday, purchases of products meeting the ENERGY STAR and WaterSense qualifications, such as certain energy-efficient appliances, will be exempt from the Virginia sales tax.

Eligible products must be priced at $2,500 or less for each item, and be purchased for noncommercial home or personal use. See additional details here.

75th Annual Members' Meeting

Will be held at the Waverly Headquarters, 7103 General Mahone Hwy. (Route 460), Waverly, VA 23890, which is 1.5 miles east of the town of Waverly. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. The business meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.

The member, whose name is listed on the account, must present photo identification to be registered to attend and vote. Non-member spouses may only attend as a guest of the member attending the meeting.

Prince George Electric Cooperative will be closing both of its offices at 12:00 noon on August 25th to prepare for the annual meeting.
