Electric Co-op Members Cannot Afford Price Increases, Job Losses from Carbon Regulations

In reaction to recent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations regarding carbon emissions for power plants, National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (NRECA) CEO Jo Ann Emerson has posted an article outlining the effects the regulations may have on not-for-profit electric cooperatives and their members.

Lightning Safety Awareness Week

Summer is the peak season for one of the nation's deadliest weather phenomena--lightning. Though lightning strikes peak in summer, people are struck year round. In the United States, an average of 51 people are killed each year by lightning, and hundreds more are severely injured. While lightning fatalities have decreased over the past 30 years, lightning continues to be one of the top three storm-related killers in the United States.

Sales Tax Holiday May 25-31, 2014

No one likes to be without power for even a short time and in the summer the possibility of longer power interruptions is increased.

Hurricane season begins June 1 so it is a great time to get your supplies together in case of extended power outages. The state of Virginia is helping by offering a tax free holiday this weekend (May 25 - May 31) on many items you need to prepare for storm related power interruptions.

Prince George Electric Cooperative (PGEC) recognizes April 18, 2014, as National Lineman Appreciation Day to honor the hardworking employees who work often in challenging and dangerous conditions to keep the lights on.

We recognize all electric linemen and crewmembers for the services they perform around the clock in dangerous working conditions to keep the power on and protect the public’s safety on a daily basis and in extreme storm situations.
