Prepare Now: Hurricane season is here

2 jun 2025

Summer months not only bring an increase in energy usage, but it also ushers in higher chances of hurricane activity. Why? Hurricane season typically occurs in summer and early fall because that's when ocean water temperatures reach their warmest, providing the energy needed for hurricane formation. The warmest water temperatures are generally found in late summer and early fall, creating ideal conditions for hurricanes to develop and intensify, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

To prepare for hurricane season, focus on creating an emergency plan, stocking up on essential supplies, and strengthening your home. This includes developing a communication plan, reviewing insurance, charging cell phone and external, backup power sources, and making sure your home is prepared for potential damage.  For more tips, please visit https://www.pgec.coop/hurricane-resources.
