Prince George Electric Cooperative had the pleasure of hosting local student and 2024 VMDAEC Education Scholarship for High School Seniors recipient, Jamel Jenkins, during its recent summer internship initiative.
When Jamel Jenkins stepped foot on the campus of Prince George Electric Cooperative headquarters, he was not prepared for the embrace he received from the co-op family. “It was amazing.” Jenkins says. “It didn’t feel like a workplace but a family that incorporated both fun and professionalism.”
Jenkins is a 2024 graduate of Prince George High School and is currently rising sophomore at Hampton University. As a finance major, Jenkins had the pleasure of shadowing several of the co-op’s departments including its accounting team. “I enjoyed learning how the cooperative handles its billing process the most.”
“Investing in our youth is one of the greatest joys of leading a community-focused organization,” said Sarat Yellepeddi, the co-op’s president and CEO. “Helping Jamel embrace the values and principles of what it means to work for a cooperative and being able to see those values demonstrated in a real work environment is an invaluable experience that I am glad we are actively providing to our next generation of leaders.”
Jenkins plans to transfer to the University of Houston in the fall of 2026 to complete his bachelor’s degree.
