  • Cooking up energy savings this Thanksgiving | Prince George Electr

< Back Cooking up energy savings this Thanksgiving Nov 27, 2024 With rising prices for groceries, many may be looking for ways to save this Thanksgiving holiday. While your cooperative may not be able to lower your Thanksgiving dinner budget this year, there are simple ways to “cook up” energy savings this year. If you’ll be hosting this year’s festivities or cooking up a storm, here are a few ways to ensure your energy bill looks as good as your turkey: Bag your turkey : Try cooking your turkey in an oven safe bag this Thanksgiving. Not only will the bag lock in juices and flavor, but it will reduce your cook time. Try no-bake recipes : Opt for a no-bake dessert recipe that has all of the same homemade love with less stress on your oven. Put other appliances to work : Use a kettle to boil water for stovetop dishes like pasta or vegetables. Also consider using the microwave to cook whenever possible. Choose the right baking dish : Glass and ceramic dishes retain heat better than metal, allowing you to reduce oven temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit less than what the recipe calls for. Break it down : Smaller pieces of food cook faster. Consider this tip for preparing potatoes, corn and vegetables. Set the mood with energy-efficient lighting : Don’t forget to set the mood for your dinner with energy-efficient lighting light LED bulbs. Monitor your energy usage post-dinner: Monitor your usage with SmartHub post-dinner. Log into your PGEC SmartHub app and activate features like usage monitoring to see the savings you’ve scored during the game. For more information, visit https://www.pgec.coop/smarthub .
