  • Co-op Spreads Holiday Cheer with Angel Tree Donation to Local DSS | Prince George Electr

< Back Co-op Spreads Holiday Cheer with Angel Tree Donation to Local DSS Dec 4, 2025 In the spirit of the season, Prince George Electric Cooperative employees delivered holiday gifts to the Sussex County Department of Social Services as part of its annual Angel Tree initiative. The donation will help brighten the holidays for local children and families in need, ensuring they experience joy, comfort, and a little extra cheer this Christmas. This year’s contribution continues a tradition the cooperative proudly upholds. For several years, the cooperative has supported the Angel Tree program—selecting wish lists, shopping for gifts, and delivering the items directly to DSS. What began as a simple gesture has grown into a cherished annual event that reflects the cooperative’s shared values and commitment to the community it serves. “Concern for Community is one of our core cooperative principles, and it guides everything we do—not just during the holidays, but throughout the entire year,” said Jill McKenzie, the co-op’s manager of HR and communications. “We look forward to this initiative, and we’re proud to play a small part in making the season brighter for local families.” The cooperative extends its gratitude to DSS for organizing the Angel Tree program and for its continued dedication to supporting residents in need. • Lineworkers are Wired for Service | Prince George Electr

< Back Lineworkers are Wired for Service By Joshua Krenicky, VP of Engineering and Operations Apr 18, 2025 In the quiet hours before dawn breaks, while many of us are still nestled in our beds, lineworkers begin their day, often clad in flame-resistant clothing, safety goggles, rubber gloves and thick, heavy boots. They are the individuals who epitomize dedication to service in its purest form. As we celebrate Lineworker Appreciation Day on April 18, this is an important moment to reflect on the essential role they play in our daily lives. Amid towering utility poles and power lines, lineworkers exhibit a strength that goes far beyond the physical. Whether battling inclement weather, troubleshooting technical problems or navigating treacherous heights, lineworkers demonstrate resilience and a quiet determination to keep our lights on, our homes comfortable, and our communities connected. Our crews travel across our six-county service territory, building, maintaining and repairing parts of our local system. Their extraordinary skills ensure our homes remain connected to the grid, businesses stay operational, and emergency services remain accessible—a lifeline that connects us all. In moments of crisis, when the lights go out and we find ourselves in the dark, lineworkers emerge as beacons of hope. Their swift response restores normalcy, offering reassurance in times of uncertainty. Whether repairing storm-ravaged power lines or ensuring continuity during emergencies, their unwavering commitment illuminates life when we need it most. PGEC’s lineworkers also answer the call beyond the boundaries of home. Our crews travel to fellow co-ops, near or far, when widespread outages occur and additional support is needed. Cooperation among cooperatives is one of our seven guiding principles, and no one embodies this core commitment better than lineworkers. This month, as we celebrate the remarkable men and women who ensure reliable power, let’s recognize their unwavering dedication to the local communities they serve. The next time you flip a switch, please take a moment to remember those who make it possible—lineworkers, who are wired for service and dedicated to illuminating life. Previous Next

  • ROC Solid Partnership | Prince George Electr

< Back ROC Solid Partnership Jun 26, 2023 A nonprofit foundation that assists families facing pediatric cancer got a heartfelt charitable boost this month from employees at Community Electric Cooperative (CEC) and Prince George Electric Cooperative (PGEC). Sixteen volunteers (eight from each co-op) spent a Thursday morning conducting a “Ready Bag Packing Party” to support families whose children are afflicted with cancer. This is the second Packing Party that CEC and PGEC volunteers have held jointly in the past eight months to assist the Roc Solid Foundation , a Chesapeake-based organization established in 2009 to build hope for children and families fighting pediatric cancer. To date, the Foundation has partnered with 117 of the nation’s nearly 250 children’s hospitals. During the packing party, the cooperatives’ teams placed Ready Bag items such as Kindle Fire tablets, Coffee Tumblers, card games, and pill crushers into about 50 bags that can help families meet tangible needs during unexpected hospital stays. Despite the seriousness of the cause, spirits were high during the packing party as the volunteers embraced the opportunity to help those in need. This charitable work exemplifies another of the core values – concern for community – that is a bedrock of electric cooperative operations throughout the nation. “It’s powerful to see so many passionate individuals – where you can really see their care and passion – come together to provide this need for these families,” said Crystal Johnson-Smith, PGEC’s Vice President of Human Resources. “It’s an eerie feeling to prepare these bags knowing they will be handed to someone in their darkest moments,” said Evan Wagensomer, Field Engineer at Community Electric Cooperative. The CEC/PGEC alliance is a months-long endeavor that features a variety of “competitive” activities between their respective teams to help the Roc Solid Foundation sustain families under duress. Approximately 16,000 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States annually. “These are the moments you remember for a lifetime - moments that stop you and not only allow you to count your blessings but to pay forward blessings to others,” said Jessica Parr, Manager of Communications at Community Electric Cooperative. Members of the general public can follow the progress of the cooperatives’ Roc Solid assistance at a website page created specifically for this project.
