- Understanding prepaid electricity: Co-op's PrePay option may be for you | Prince George Electr
< Back Understanding prepaid electricity: Co-op's PrePay option may be for you May 28, 2024 Prince George Electric Cooperative's PrePay option allows members pay for power upfront instead of at the end of each billing period. This means that members spend the money they already have in their account rather than accumulating a bill each month. How is this possible? Thanks to Prince George Electric Cooperative’s investment in advanced metering infrastructure, we can monitor your energy usage 24 hours a day. The live data is communicated back to PGEC and we are able to provide you with the most accurate daily readings. Who is eligible for PrePay and how does it work? PrePay is available to members regardless of credit or income status. There is no security deposit required to connect and no late fees. Members pay for their electric service in advance, and each day, the available balance is deducted based on your use. Your PrePay balance is calculated daily by subtracting your energy charges and adding any payments received. As a result, members have greater flexibility in planning monthly expenses and can make daily, weekly, or bi-weekly payments rather than one monthly payment. Interested in PrePay? Call 804-834-2424 for more information or to check your eligibility. Previous Next
- No April Fools': Pay one set amount each month with budget billing
< Back No April Fools': Pay one set amount each month with budget billing Apr 1, 2024 If your electric cooperative told you that you could pay one set amount for your electric bill each month, would you believe them? Well, Prince George Electric Cooperative offers members that option with its budget billing program – and this is no April Fools' joke! Budget Billing is PGEC’s free, convenient budgeting tool to help you avoid seasonal swings in your monthly bill. Under this plan, you pay the same bill amount each month, making it easy for you to cover your bill on a budget over a 12-month period. In some months, that payment may be more than what your actual bill is and in other months it may be less than what your actual bill is. For example: Let’s say that your budget amount is $150 per month and your March bill is $165. You still will only pay $150. If your April bill is $130, you still pay $150. After 12 months, the actual amount you have been billed and the budget billing amount you’ve paid should be very close and balance out. The monthly budget billing amount is reviewed and adjusted if needed twice in 12 months to keep you as close as possible to your actual billed amounts. The plan runs from May 2024 to April 2025 when the billed-versus-paid amounts are settled. Qualifications for the Budget Billing Plan include: Must have had service with PGEC for at least 12 months. Account must be in good standing and have a zero balance at the time the plan begins; and, Payments must be made on time each month to participate. Please note that this program is offered to residential accounts only and does not apply to final bills when your account is closed. Previous Next

- Spring into Savings: Top 5 budget-friendly tips to tame your electric bill
< Back Spring into Savings: Top 5 budget-friendly tips to tame your electric bill Mar 19, 2024 No need to rush out and upgrade your heat pump or buy all new appliances to reduce your electric bill this season! As we prepare for Spring, Prince George Electric Cooperative reminds members to consider the following simple and affordable steps to tame your energy use: A home energy assessment can help you determine how much energy your home uses, where your home is inefficient, and which problem areas and fixes you should prioritize to save energy and improve the comfort of your home. Visit our energy resource center to get a free virtual assessment and learn where your energy dollars are going. If you’ll be planting this season, be sure to plant coniferous trees and shrubs to the north and northwest of your home to stop wind and plant shrubs and groundcover plants to cool the air before it reaches your home. Use loose-weave window curtains and decorate with lighter colors that reflect daylight. Keep air vents, warm-air registers, baseboard heaters, and radiators clean and unobstructed, as well as the area around outdoor air conditioners and heat pumps. The screw-on tip of the faucet, also known as the aerator, ultimately determines the maximum flow rate of a faucet. The most efficient aerators have flow rates of no more than 1 gpm. Making small changes to your energy use can have a big impact on your electric bill over time. Want to monitor how these tips affect your bill this month? Be sure to download the PGEC SmartHub mobile app to monitor your daily usage. Previous Next

Recently, Prince George Electric Cooperative employees had the chance to participate in the annual event to speak to more than 50 students about the co-op business model, potential careers, training, internships, and scholarship opportunities. “While the co-op’s core operation is to provide members with reliable electricity, the commitment doesn’t stop there,” says Brittany Tann, the co-op’s senior communications specialist. “As a community partner, investing in our youth speaks to the co-op’s mission of improving the quality of life both now and in our future.” As a mother of three Southampton Academy students, Jones recalls attending a Career Fair a few years back. “What I witnessed was a yearning for more in-depth conversations and time with each professional to really understand career path opportunities, educational and training requirements, experience, and advancement,” Jones expresses. “I wanted our children to know of the opportunities that await them post-graduation - with awareness of trades, industry, government, education, healthcare, agriculture and more.” From that, she designed a Career Day - a day designated to spend quality time interacting and learning from professionals like those at PGEC. PGEC employees attending this year’s event were Austin Cherrix, Apprentice Lineman, Holden Dunn, Journeyman Lineman, Kristy Miles, HR Specialist, and Brittany Tann. “As an HR professional of more than 9 years, these opportunities allow us to help shape the future leaders and community workforce,” says Miles. Jones says that the overwhelming support from the community professionals has been incredible. “We look forward to continuing this in the years ahead!” ### Prince George Electric Cooperative Prince George Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Waverly, is a not-for-profit member-owned energy provider that serves more than 12,000 member-owners in six counties: Dinwiddie, Isle of Wight, Prince George, Southampton, Surry and Sussex. By adding blankets to beds and sofas, and wearing layers of warm clothing, you’ll be cozy and comfortable even if your home is a few degrees cooler. Stock up .
